What we do

A manual process eating a few hours every week. A spreadsheet doing a database's job. Two systems that should talk to each other and don't. We take on problems like that — one at a time, for one business at a time — and stay on it until it's actually fixed. Not a ticket in a queue, not a team spread across ten clients.

What this looks like in practice

It usually starts with a conversation, not a proposal. You describe the problem, we tell you honestly whether it's something we can help with and roughly what it'd take. If it's a fit, we start small — often just the part that hurts most — and go from there.

The kind of problems that fit

Manual work that's quietly eating hours every week. A booking, ops, or invoicing process still held together by spreadsheets and copy-paste. Two systems that should talk to each other and don't. Compliance or reporting work that's turned into repetitive manual busywork. If it's specific and real, it's worth a conversation — even if you're not sure it's fixable.

Who this isn't for

This isn't hourly dev-shop work, and it's not a fit for a long backlog of unrelated tickets. We take on one real problem at a time and go deep on it — which means we're selective about what we take on, not because of size or industry, but because it has to be something we can actually go all the way with.

How we work

• Built with, not for. We sit with how the work actually happens — not a brief written from the outside — and shape the fix around that.
• Small and direct. No account managers, no layers of handoff — you talk to the person actually doing the work, every time.
• Honest pace. We move quickly, but we'll tell you straight if something's not ready yet, instead of dressing it up.

About

Over the last 20 years I've worked nearly every side of building technology — developer, team lead, engineering manager, business owner, and for the last five years, CTO — across iGaming, SaaS, and e-commerce, including plenty of work where compliance and audit trails weren't optional. That range is why this isn't strategy from a distance: I'm still comfortable writing the code myself, not just directing someone else's team to do it.

Hillside Labs is what I'm building now: a technical studio, currently small, growing deliberately — starting by working closely with a handful of people on problems I can actually go deep on, not a long client roster spread thin.
